DETV Kids is a children’s media and learning initiative from DETV, Delaware’s community-powered television and digital media network. We create positive, educational programming for children ages 5 to 12 and their families, with a focus on the communities that are too often left out of the media they watch.

The Need

Children in Delaware’s underserved communities spend hours each day with screens, but very little of that content reflects their neighborhoods, teaches real skills, or connects them to local role models. At the same time, schools and families are looking for trusted, affordable tools that support early literacy, social and emotional learning, and digital media skills.

What we do

DETV Kids meets children where they already are, on television, mobile, and social platforms, with content that is safe, local, and built to teach. Our programming and partnerships include:

Educational shows and segments centered on reading, STEM, health and wellness, arts, and character development

Youth-voice content where Delaware children tell their own stories and see themselves on screen

School, library, and community partnerships that bring hands-on media learning into classrooms and after-school programs

Family engagement events that turn screen time into shared learning time

Broadcast distribution through Comcast and DETV's digital channels, reaching households statewide at no cost to families

The outcomes we track

Number of children and families reached across broadcast and digital

Number of students served through school and community programs

Growth in reading confidence, communication skills, and media literacy

Number of local educators, professionals, and role models featured on screen

Students who advance into DETV Teens and Lights, Camera, Learn

Why it matters

DETV Kids is the first step in a statewide youth media pipeline. Children who start with DETV Kids can grow into DETV Teens, Lights, Camera, Learn, and real career pathways in media, communication, and technology. Every dollar invested supports early learning today and workforce readiness tomorrow.

DETV Kids is supported by foundations, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and community partners who share our belief that every Delaware child deserves media that lifts them up. Sponsorships and grants directly fund production, school programming, and family events, and partners receive on-air and digital recognition across the DETV network.
